The Strategic Use of Data Rubric for Postsecondary Education is a resource developed by the SDP to provide direction and support to institutions in their efforts to transform data use. It is a tool that enables a structured and systematic assessment of an institution’s strengths and challenges around data use and can be used by educational leaders to identify specific highlight specific steps toward using data more strategically.

Cross-Institution Coursework Analysis

SDP-CTE ECMC Foundation Fellow Jeff Tinley, Director of Institutional Research at Roane State Community College in Harriman, Tennessee, leveraged enrollment and outcomes data for students enrolled in coursework at Roane State and Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT), a local postsecondary institution, to understand rates of success.

Culturally Responsive Data Systems

SDP Fellow Darius Taylor, Director of Equity, Education Innovation, and Research at the American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC), established culturally responsive data systems and stewardship to advance native students’ postsecondary success.

Aligning CTE Offerings and Labor Market Needs

SDP-CTE Fellows Dr. Wyl Culling, a market research analyst at Lansing Community College, and Dr. Karen Hicks, director of assessment at Lansing, used quantitative and qualitative data to assess the alignment between CTE programs and local employers’ needs.

Developing Student Completion Metrics

At Valencia College in Florida, SDP-CTE Fellows Dr. Christos Giannoulis, Senior Institutional Research Analyst, and Nichole Jackson, Director of Learning Assessment, analyzed student outcomes to establish a clear set of completion metrics based on student characteristics, chosen pathway, and program.
