Richard Murnane is the William Foss Thompson Research Professor of Education and Society at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Professor Murnane returns each year to teach Program Evaluation to Institute participants. Along with John Willett, Professor Murnane wrote the book on causal methods in education research. Methods Matter provides a clear and concise guide for evaluating causal impacts of educational interventions. Murnane's research includes investigating how the growth in family income inequality in the U.S. has affected educational opportunities for children from low-income families and the effectiveness of strategies for improving life chances for these children.
