This is an example protocol for engaging stakeholders in collaboratively designing a data dashboard. This protocol was primarily designed for an in-person meeting with 15-20 people split up into small groups. It can be adapted for smaller audiences by shifting the small group activities to either the whole group or partners. Similarly, it can be adapted for a virtual meeting by allowing stakeholders to present their drawings on camera, and then using tools like editing slides, Figma or even Generative AI tools to collaboratively “draw” their designs virtually. If collaborative drawing is too much of a technological barrier for a virtual meeting, you can also skip that part and instead hold a longer open discussion framed around the individual drawings.

This tool is part of [**The** **Early Learning Journey**](https://sdp.cepr.harvard.edu/early-learning-journey-connecting-preschool-data-elementary-outcomes)**,** a collaboration between the Strategic Data Project and representatives from Boston Public Schools, the California Department of Education, Chicago Public Schools, the D.C. Office of the State Superintendent of Education, and the Washington State Education Research and Data Center. It is supported by the Gates Foundation.
