  [### Meghan Lane

](/blog/substitute-shift-how-data-can-address-equitable-substitute-placement)While an SDP Fellow at Chicago Public Schools, Meghan Lane noticed an increased demand for substitute teachers in Chicago Public Schools was leaving an average of 350 classroom substitute teacher requests unfilled each school day. The large majority of these schools were serving racially diverse and economically disadvantaged students. Lane looked to the data to understand substitute preferences, identify schools with low fill rates, and developed a stipend program to incentivize substitute teachers to work in the schools with historically higher empty classrooms.

  [### Sue Mukherjee

](/blog/making-workforce-data-work-students-and-families)While an SDP Fellow at the Pennsylvania State System for Higher Education, Sue Mukherjee merged student data with employment data to shed light on how post-secondary institutions can best respond to students and workforce needs. Her work brought to light new data points to inform institutional decisionmaking, such as an institution-specific crosswalk is a key tool for viewing the real time connections of education programs with the labor market; a database linking career trajectories of alumni; and new indicators for program outcomes
